About

The MA Digital Theatre is an advance course in contemporary theatre making. The course provides students an innovative environment that offers an opportunity to define contemporary theatre practice using new digital tools and technologies. Students will be introduced to innovative technologies and tools such as projected media, digital video, sound, broadband, mobile technology and other web interfaces in order to forge new connections, facilitate debates, share ideas and network with a international community of diverse practitioners.

Through the development of practice-led projects, students learn to challenge conventional boundaries and develop a critical awareness of contemporary theatre making.

Student examine the role of spectator, space and action, aiming to unravel innovative ways of realising ideas using a variety of performance models, materials and influences with which to express a unique point of view. By identifying, developing and strengthening a students area of specialism students will be prepared to work not only independently, but also to offer a confident, informed and inventive contribution to any creative team that is on the cutting edge of contemporary theatre making.

As this course is project led, the curriculum is largely developed to support student’s individual practice and research through a series of self-initiated projects. Support is provided through training in solo and collective performance creation, an introduction to a number of key skills within theatre practice, as well as lectures and seminars in the history and theory of world performance practices, designs and digital technology.

A substantial amount of the course is dedicated to students participation in debates surrounding a wide range of artistic media including video art, film, digital design, painting, sculpture, installation, as well as various genres of performance making such as live art, site specific and cyber performance.
